Terra rossa

au înflorit încă o dată copacii

muzica inundă cărările văzduhului

pământul – "piatra norocoasă" a lui Dumnezeu

(cum l-a numit Tukaram)

e înroșit de la oxidul de fier

un drum greu de urcat

plin de bruși noduri și praf

strigătul din sânge nu vine din glas

gura înăsprită de cuvinte amare –

o rană

care nici nu doare

nici vindecare nu are

Simone Weil and her favorite poem

Simone Adolphine Weil was born on February 3, 1909 in Paris to an Alsatian Jewish family.

Here is a poem that she loved to recite, like a prayer:

Love
by George Herbert

LOVE bade me welcome; yet my soul drew back,
            Guilty of dust and sin.
But quick-eyed Love, observing me grow slack
    From my first entrance in,
Drew nearer to me, sweetly questioning
            If I lack’d anything.
‘A guest,’ I answer’d, ‘worthy to be here:’
Love said, ‘You shall be he.’
‘I, the unkind, ungrateful? Ah, my dear,
            I cannot look on Thee.’
Love took my hand and smiling did reply,
‘Who made the eyes but I?’
‘Truth, Lord; but I have marr’d them: let my shame
            Go where it doth deserve.’
‘And know you not,’ says Love, ‘Who bore the blame?’
‘My dear, then I will serve.’
‘You must sit down,’ says Love, ‘and taste my meat.’
So I did sit and eat.

Primo Levi - poems

Go away. I haven't dispossessed anyone

Haven't usurped anyone's bread.

No one died in my place. No one.

Go back into your mist.

It's not my fault if I live and breathe,

Eat, drink, sleep and put on clothes.

Caiete (1957- 1972)
